Aguascalientes forms part of the so-called Bajio Region, which also includes the states of Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato and Querétaro. An important industrial corridor has been developed throughout the Bajio, which now houses various national and international companies. The economic growth of the region is higher than national average.

The state of Aguascalientes has an area of approximately 5,600 square kilometers. It borders to the north, east and west with the State of Zacatecas; to the south and east with Jalisco.

Included among the most important industries in the state are agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, commerce and tourism, enabling a consistent increase in the economy. GDP with an annual growth of 4.9%, in 2nd place nationwide. Fitch Ratings Classification: BBB+. The World Bank classifies Aguascalientes as the best location in Mexico for doing business. (Doing Business 2016). The Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE) published by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (National Statistics and Geography Institute) (INEGI) shows an increase of 8.4%, 2nd place in the country, 1st place in the region.

The principal crops in Aguascalientes are: alfalfa, corn for fodder, guava, grapes, garlic and lettuce. This production represents a value of approximately $2,500 million Pesos for the state of Aguascalientes.

The municipality of Rincon de Romos, where the agro-park is located, is the seat of the Universidad Tecnológica del Norte de Aguascalientes (Northern Aguascalientes Technological Institute) (UTNA), which houses approximately 2,300 students. Eleven careers and branches of engineering are taught at the UTNA, together with 14 Higher Technical University (TSU) careers.
